What’s it like to live in Elizabeth?
Elizabeth was originally a ranching community founded in the latter half of the nineteenth century and while there has been some influx in the last few decades— a lot of artists and free-thinkers began migrating to smaller towns like Elizabeth in the 60’s and 70’s—it still retains its character.
It has this great small town charm and a real sense of community. You can really feel that community spirit at local events like the parade that precedes the local rodeo every year and the farmer’s market that runs during the summer. It’s nice to have the city nearby for its commercial aspects, but if you are raising a family, you really want a place where you can get to know your neighbors and your kids can ride their bikes.
What types of homes are in Elizabeth?
I guess that depends on what you are looking for. As I said, Elizabeth is a predominantly rural community. If you are interested in a rural property with some acreage, you will definitely find that here. In fact, even if you are looking for something in a subdivision, you will still find plenty of space between you and your neighbors. Many newly constructed homes have lots with one or two acres (or more). There have been newer homes constructed over the last few decades and home construction is still on-going. That means, you can find a home with a little bit of character if that is what you want, but you can also find a brand new home.
What’s unique about Elizabeth?
On Main Street there are still some of the original town buildings. The late 19th century architecture you see on Main Street gives the place a kind of Old West, Little House on the Prairie look. I think my favorite example is the bank building.
Probably one of the most interesting events that happen around here all year is the Celtic Festival. It seems to swallow up the whole town for an entire weekend, usually in July. People come from across the United States and from other parts of the world. I think one of my favorite things about living in Elizabeth, though, is that the scenery is pretty spectacular. It’s a predominantly pine forested area, so, you will see lots of deer and other wildlife. If you’re into hiking, you’ve found the right place.

As I said, Elizabeth has a very real small town sensibility. You have community events like the rodeo and the Celtic Festival every year, and the farmer’s market every summer. There are antique and vintage clothing stores you can browse on Main Street. Believe it or not, Elizabeth has its own 18-hole golf course, complete with a full practice area. Is Elizabeth right for me?
Elizabeth is a good place for anybody who enjoys the serenity of small town life. Settled among the pageantry of pine forests and rolling hills, with a view of the Rocky Mountains, Elizabeth is a world away from the rush and the noise of the city which makes it a great place to raise a family. The sense of community and the natural beauty just make it a nice place to come home to.
