What’s unique about Windsor?
One of the city’s claims to fame is, interestingly enough, Windsor High School’s marching band. The band has won a number of state championships over the last couple decades, but students and residents alike had occasion for an extra dose of local pride in 2009. That year, that band was chosen to perform in President Barack Obama’s inauguration parade.
Speaking of sports, Windsor is home to three championship golf courses, with five total courses to choose from. What are the best things to do in Windsor?
Take your pick… Looking to explore some of Colorado’s gorgeous outdoor playgrounds? Windsor alone has 25 parks covering more than 200 acres. Together, these offer more than 40+ miles of walking, biking and in-line skating paths, including the popular, 19-mile Poudre River Trail, which connects several surrounding cities. Plus, many of these parks and open spaces provide access to athletic fields, swimming and boating, fishing, a skate park, dog parks, playgrounds, and more. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a fitness enthusiast or just enjoy a leisurely evening stroll, perhaps with a canine companion.
You don’t even have to travel to access great outdoor recreation. Right in the middle of downtown is 180-acre Windsor Lake, a reservoir that is a go-to spot for boating, fishing, and bird watching. And just off of Main Street is Main Park, one of the city’s most popular gathering places. Here, you can meet with family or friends for a friendly game of horseshoes, volleyball, or basketball. There are even roller hockey rinks. If you want to make an evening of it, or even host a party, there are several large picnic shelters with grills.
Nearby Boardwalk Park offers a free, weekly Concert in the Park series during the summer months. At these events, you can hear local bands playing everything from jazz and big band music to country and rock tunes.
Is Windsor right for me?
