Wow it’s been since 2013 that the 1,000 year flood took out our Sunset Bridge.
I have used this forever as my cut thru going from Old Town to South Longmont, avoiding much traffic from Main Street or Hover Street.
The city has taken (in my opinion), far too long to decide how to rebuild the bridge, all while having FEMA Funds delivered….. At any rate, here’s what we got:
Construction began November 30, 2015. The project is expected to last six months, with the new bridge opening in May 2016.
The bridge and surrounding work area will be closed throughout construction. Automobile traffic will continue to be detoured as it has been throughout the bridge closure. Bicyclists and pedestrians will be routed around the construction zone via St. Vrain Greenway to the Boston Avenue underpass. Access to businesses on either side of the bridge and Izaak Walton Park will be maintained throughout construction. The bridge will reopen to pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists once fully complete.
Looking forward to my old cut thru and accessing the bike paths again this Spring!
