The history of Henderson is one of the things that make this area stand out from other places in Colorado. When Henderson was founded it was originally name Henderson Island, because of all of the water that surrounded it. Henderson is what is called an unincorporated community and Commerce City, Brighton, and Thornton have annexed portions of this unincorporated community. Henderson Island was the first settlement that was permanent in the South Platte River Valley.


Where are the good schools in Henderson?

You are not just forced to endure 1 school, but you can send your child to a school that will best serve their needs. The school district for Henderson is Brighton School District No. 27 and in this district they have what is called intra-district choice, which allows children to attend any school in the district. Low income students and students who attend low-performing schools are eligible to receive tokens in order to transfer to better schools in the district. This is a very intriguing option when it comes to deciding where to raise your children.

In addition to these great schools there are also some very good colleges in the area. University of Denver, which is only 11 miles away from Henderson, is a favorite of residents of Henderson due to the great programs offered including business, marketing, and also visual and Performing Arts just to name a few. What are the best things to do in Henderson?

Henderson is home to Colorado’s largest outdoor shopping and entertainment place. The Mile High Flea Market is a place where people come from all over the country to experience this huge flea market that sits on 80 acres of land. This is not just your typical flea market, the kids will even enjoy spending time there, because there are even rides and events to break up the day and keep them happy while you walk around and shop. Each weekend families flock here to spend an hour or even an entire day enjoying the different merchandise and delicious food.

There is also the Adams County Regional Park & Fairgrounds that provides plenty of fun for the entire family. Here you can spend your day by the lake areas, or walking the trails. If you check the schedule you will even be able to catch a Mile High Barrel Horse race.
